Poems -> Reflection :  “The Ravages of Time”
Tags: face   dignity   show   lines
When the ravages of time
Begin to tell on your face
What was once the beauty of youth
Is now only dignity and grace

When the energy you’ve been robbed of
And find that you can’t replace
It’s ravages of time
Now apparent on your face

The beauty you once possessed
Hasn’t faded, but altered somehow
Where there was once a sensuous twinkle
There is wisdom and knowledge now

The places you’ve seen
The things you’ve done
Look back at you from the mirror
They’re there, they are not gone

Each one of us carries inside
The memories of a whole lifetime
The faces of those who loved us
Even when we’re past our prime

The passion and fires of youth
Are just glowing embers now
But an ember of coal burns hotter and longer
Than the spark and flame, somehow

Maturity has its advantages
Because your spirit never ages
Even though the ravages of time
Usually turn us into sages

You’ve amassed such experience
That impetuousness can’t replace
Now that the ravages of time
Have begun to tell on your face.
