Inspiration never comes when you want it to...
The page remains blank, the ink continues to swirl
around in the pen, doing whatever it is that
ink is not supposed to do.

Words stay stubbornly out of reach...
they never flow out in neat little rhymes,
or trip from the tongue easily,
much like they do in speech.

Writing poetry has been compared to many things...
but none come to mind as one sits down to write,
no light bulbs pop up above the poet’s head,
no “Eureka” written in bright fluorescent neon lights,
the truth is only good in whatsoever the truth rings.

With these obstacles so often thrown in the poet’s way...
It is a wonder that anything ever gets written,
minor miracles fill the pages that we love to read,
and minor miracles continue to be written every day.

who said that???

 Re: Minor Miracles
Hello Frank,
Sometimes what you say is true. Ideas don't always come. But other times the muse comes to us unbidden and inspires us to write a poem. The subject, of course, has to have meaning for us, has to affect us in some way.

I often find that once I start a rhyming poem it's very much like a puzzle to be solved. Words must be found which rhyme well and the rhythm must fit smoothly and scan well. It's fun doing these puzzles. And when we're done we have something to save to read over and enjoy when the mood arises.

Enjoy your creativity so others might enjoy your poems.
