Poems :  Have Kilt, Will Travel - ☺

Feel my flanks, set to quiver,
caber toss that I deliver
on rolling green of knoll;
I've dug myself into a hole.

Scottish blood, it sings
and rings with needs to sling
a weighted hammer;
I stumble, stammer,
but won't be moved
to leave my task undone.
My hands, they clench,
I make my run!

Sorties made, I'm kilted.
And of Love, I've not been jilted,
though some fellows standing to my fore
have felt that pain, have known that score,
and fiery rage consumes their skin
while weights are tossed with much chagrin;
a smile soon flits across my lips.

Of water, taken, in quickened sips.

And yes, I'm strong, and yes, I'm kilted.
My spirit, burning, will not be wilted.
Across this life, my soul thus quilted.

Softly sighing, I bunch my shoulders,
thanking the Lord, I seemingly launch boulders
that resoundingly crash somewhere down the field;
I am not untouched by what I wield.

May the Lord thus bless
this man, in kilt,
this man, who flings
and joyously sings,
whose sweat thus stings
across a brow, so knitted,
as heaved weight from callused fingers, fitted,
finds a home far from where it was thrown.

I secure the weight and launch the stone.

Beware, all ye who deign to step foot
onto fields of green with weights that hurt.
Tread real careful, in words you say,
and don't you dare call my kilt a skirt!

Wow! I love this superbly crafted, humourous write, Richard. You orchestrate your words to do your bidding throughout the poem. I so enjoyed reading this exquisitely narrated story and I just love the final line in the poem which brings the whole poem together for me. A moment in poetic thought which took my mind beyond itself and allowed my spirit to bask in the warmth and wit of this excellently crafted write. Thank you so very much for sharing, Richard. I hope you are well and that all is well with you! Blessings always, with every possible good wish, dear friend...
